Men's 2011 Club Champs Finals

Topic: Achievements
The weather gods decided to turn on some spectacular weather on Finals Day in the hope that our finalists would reciprocate with some spectacular golf which they did. Match after match, whether for the Club Champs, Plate or Flights, the worthy combatants went toe-to-toe for the 36 or 18 holes required and in some cases they enjoyed each others company so much they went over and beyond the call of duty. It was a marvelous event with 22 finalists out there doing their thing.

The Senior Club Champ final between playing through champion, Nike Voke, and Adrian Gray was a humdinger with Gray setting the early pace, but losing a bit of momentum when a suspected lost ball due to another course user playing the wrong ball meant a return to the tee and the eventual loss of hole. Voke managed to eke out a 4 hole lead which he managed to hold onto over the closing eight holes of the match.

The Senior Plate final was a hotly contested match between Gavin Frith and Sidhu Singh in which neither player was able to get a roll on and the break they so desparately needed to make on the opponent. Finding the trap on the par 3 14th didn't help Frith's cause and the two ended the regulation 18 holes all square. The close competitveness of the match continue for another five play-off holes before Singh finally won the match.

The Intermediate Club Champ final was a test of nerves and whoever broke first was going to struggle to find a way back into the match. An even first nine holes saw Don McFazean 1-up on his opponent Stephen Imm, but a five hole winning surge in the second nine holes saw McFadzean leap out to a six hole advantage which Imm was never able to peg back. Imm made sure the 6-up gap wasn't extended over the last 18 holes and saw it out for the 6/5 win result to McFadzean.

The 18 hole Intermediate Plate final between Tom Taito and Peter Thorburn was a hard grind for both players who spent a bit of time trying to maintain their golfing composure in a match which saw a few too many errant shots being sprayed around the course at times. Thorburn finally came through in the end with a win on the very last hole.

The Intermediate Flights final was one of the few one-sided affairs with Mike Turner completely dominating his match with Greg Lane to take the final 6/5.

The Junior Club Champs final was a very evenly contested match between Graham Williams and Colin Tilley which went right to the 36th and last hole before finding its winner.
